In partnership with Calais Chamber of Commerce and Industry we commissioned respected industry consultants MDS Transmodal to provide us with a State of Freight Report, forecasting the future level of freight traffic through Kent. We included trucked freight using RO-RO services, rail freight services using the Channel Tunnel and air freight.

The report estimates that RO-RO freight traffic in our area will double from 3.5 million movements in 2005 to 7.1 million movements in 2030. There is some capacity to use more rail freight but it cannot reverse the need for trucks - the report concludes that it can only slow the growth, and then only minimally.
